We have prepared this page to address some of the most common questions from patients scheduled for surgery.
Where will my surgery be performed?
The location of your surgery will depend on the surgery you are having and the surgeon you are seeing. We work with several respected hospitals and surgery centers in Orange County including:
- Hoag Hospital Irvine
- Hoag Hospital Newport Beach
- Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, Fountain Valley
- Newport Beach Surgery Center
- Newport Plaza Surgical Center
Review and update your medication list
Make sure you review and update your medications list prior to your surgery. We recommend that you put all your medications on an index card, which you can keep in your wallet or on your person. Bring this with you to your surgery.
Obtain your medical clearance right away
Some surgeries will require a written medical clearance from your doctor. The criteria for medical clearance is hospital or surgery center specific. Once your surgery date is set, make appointments with the appropriate physicians to obtain your medical clearance right away! If your medical clearance is not obtained in time, your surgery could be delayed. Not all patients need to have medical clearance prior to surgery.
Please choose the facility where your surgery will be performed from the list above, and review the requirements.
Read the Pre-Operative Protocol
Please read and sign the pre-operative protocol that will be given to you in advance of your surgery. This document will also tell you the do’s and don’ts of preparing for surgery. It is important to follow the surgical instructions provided to you which include: arrival time, where to check-in for your surgery, how to prepare for your surgery, any pre-operative testing or clearance requirements, and post-surgical discharge guidelines.
Review the your Discharge Instructions
Your physician will go over instructions for recovery, but it is important that you are familiar with the guidelines before you go in for your surgery. The more prepared you are before surgery, the easier it will be to take it easy during recovery.
Prepare the following items and bring them with you to the hospital:
- Insurance card
- Photo ID
Please leave all valuables at home.
